Pickies!
This post is for the people who like the pictures. And not so much on the words because, well, there’s a small tsunami of picturemania coming at your eyeballs right now. Words – no. If you dare to hop in the virtual backseat of the rented Prius to get a sneak peek at our incredibly busy, non-stop, fun little West Coast road trip, you are just going to be scrolling. For a little bit of a looong time. I’m just preparing you now. There would be no time to stop and read – this is a thumb-through-while-snacking post – so there are very few words here. Now everybody cross your fingers that I can cut myself off soon enough to let you actually look through.
I had a major self-debate about whether or not it was appropriate to include so many vacation pictures in one post (and no grid this time! usually I at least try to condense the massive montage), but the reality is that I am a person who would almost for-surely pay real money to sit on my comfy couch and look through other people’s vacation pictures on the internet. Like I might have even seen your honeymoon pictures on Facebook last year. Okay fine, I did. It’s a disease.
And so maybe I’m not the only one with the disease. This might actually just be the perfect place for a support group. Welcome.
I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting older (hello thirty, I see you up ahead), or if I’m just getting more tired more easily, or both at the same time *sobs*, but this trip had me so completely tuckered out every single night. And considering that I just used the phrase tuckered out, we can attribute the tiredness to me being 80 years old in spirit. This week we were ON THE GO, people. We started in San Francisco for a video recording project thingy that I’ll tell you more about soon. Two days later, we drove 15 hours up highway one and through the state of Oregon and eventually landed ourselves in Seattle for a food photography workshop. Like, you guys. There was one night that I literally fell asleep sitting up straight mid-conversation with Bjork. Not like I nodded off. We’re talking literally full-blown falling asleep. Someone please put me down for a nap.
Except who has time for naps when there’s such an incredible world to see? Every time we travel there’s a little spark that lights me up inside, especially when I think about how big the world is and how many incredible people there are in it, doing different things and living unique lifestyles and showing me other ways of being besides my own. It’s inspiring and mind-rocking. I’m getting tired again just thinking about it, so, uhh, the nap.
Without a doubt, we needed more time in all of these places and then some on this trip. Maybe there’s a sequel in our future.
For now, here’s a peek at what we did! BUCKLE UP.
That was a picture marathon. If you are not a family member reading out of supportive familial obligation, you win Best Reader Award. ❤ Bless.
If you have any questions about where we stayed or what we did or how many times I ate eggs benedict florentine (no! don’t ask), you can just leave a comment and I will happily relive these glory moments with you. Seriously, thank you x a bajillion for all your recs as we ate our way through all these cities – I would literally read through all your comments before every single restaurant choice. You guys KNOW.

Lovely pictures….you put me to shame. But I’ll keep trying. Love that blue and white plaid/checkered shirt. LOVE it. Wish I was wearing something cool and trendy like that right now instead of my chicken angel Christmas PJ’s!!!! Oh well.
Really cool trip. Cool food pics. But the thing that resonated the most was how tired traveling makes you! And lemme tell you, it’s all downhill from here, if you think 30 is tough, just get to 35, I feel like I’m 90 most days I’m sorry to say. But I don’t think the 5 hours of sleep I get helps. And then I’m supposed to exercise? It’s like, um, that’s not gonna work.
Wait, what? Chicken Angel Christmas PJs? AMAZING
Oh my gosh these pictures are divine! It looks like you guys had such an incredible time… Congratulations on all of your triumphs and successes.. You both deserve them all and more!
How much fun was that?
Thanks for the award haha!
Loved thumbing through your vacay pics (my snack was jerky).
I would really like to visit SF, it looks fabulous.
Jerky! nicely done.
Lovely trip . I hope to travel to your country soon .
🙂
Carmen
I.am.so.jealous. That looks so fun.
I have never been to the west coast and I’ve been having this awful travel bug recently and a road trip sounds phenomenal. I’m looking into moving from DC in the next year or so and I need to visit all of the places!!
Going to Asheville, NC this weekend and I can’t wait. But I’d take a West Coast trip any day!!!
Favorite place?
You’d love it! Favorite place was probably Sausalito. So charming! 🙂
What an incredible trip. We want to plan a western trip in the late spring, and this is almost exactly what we had in mind. Your pictures are so incredible, as always. Cutest couple!
I LOVE seeing all the vacay pics – thanks for sharing! Gorgeous photos.
1. GREAT photos!
2. I loveee your colorful, chevron scarf – where from?
3. Those cookies – I want!
Thanks Hillary! I got it at a little no-name boutique in Stillwater, MN. Sorry – that probably isn’t much help. 🙂 The cookies, though! You can buy the mix from the Not Without Salt blog.
We were in Oregon and Washington for our vacay this year, and loved seeing your pics!
haha, of course we stuck to the end! Looks like a fabulous trip!…the food!
I love all these pictures…just gorgeous! And your blue checkered shirt is too cute; where’s it from?
Old Navy! 🙂
I loved the pictures post! Looks like it was a wonderful trip. Also, those cookies. Drool.
I am planning a honeymoon next October to Oregon! Hoping to start in Portland and then explore the coast. Would love to know where you stayed and any restaurant recommendations 🙂
We seriously adored this humble and cozy little place called the Weasku Inn. It’s in Grant’s Pass, which is not much of a destination in and of itself, but the 12 hours we spent at this adorable little lodge were probably some of our favorite of the whole trip. If you do stay there, definitely pay the extra $20 for a private cabin. It was just really quaint, right on the river, with a great walking path and really quiet, relaxed ambiance. Also really liked Portland, but we didn’t stay there – just grabbed a bite at a Thai restaurant called E-San. Have so much fun!
Thanks so much for the tips!
Looks like you had an amazing trip! There’s always something new to see and do in Bay Area. One of my all time fav spots (minus all the tourists 🙂
I seriously envy your life right now lol 😉 Seriously, I hope to be something like this one day, traveling and going to conferences. What was the Photography conference called? I would love to go to one of these one day. I love the photography portion of food blogging and I would love to get better. Also the picture with the girl and the camera and she has a brown strap on her camera, by any chance (I know this is a small chance but I have to ask) do you know where she got it! I love it. Love your pictures and I LOVE SF & Seattle. I haven’t been to Portland but it’s on my bucket list of travel places 😀 Thank you for the pictures, I love traveling with others, I am down for that support group haha 🙂
The workshop was hosted through Canelle et Vanille – I think there are class listings on her website. I don’t know where Ashely got her camera strap, but you could email her and ask! 🙂 Her blog is Not Without Salt.
Awesome! Thank you so much for the information 🙂 Hope you have a beautiful day Lindsay.
You’re truly inspiring!!! Hope you guys had as much fun as all those pictures look! Now don’t mind me going into your estore to purchase your food photography book 😀
YES! Enjoy! 🙂
Yes – I have that disease too – I love travelling-vicariously through other peoples photos – specially when they revisit some of my fav places…and you have picked some AMAZING pictures that show so much more than the city – they capture the mood – of the city and y’all!
Thank you Shashi! Appreciate that!
I win. Me! I’m the best reader! 😉
WHY are you guys so cute? I love your pics.
You’re the sweetest! 🙂 Thanks Rachael!
These photos literally left me in awe! I think these may be some of my favorites, Lindsay! I’ve been all up and down the east coast but haven’t touched the west coast what so ever but.. after these photos I think it may be a must! Especially Portland and Seattle for those delicious doughnuts 😀
Anyways, what was your favorite city?!? Dying to know!
Thanks Andres! Favorite city was probably Seattle. I just really like the vibe. But a close second would be Bodega Bay, Petaluma, and Grant’s Pass, OR.
Oh darn, I was hoping you’d come up a little bit further North to Vancouver, Canada 🙂 There is a huge foodie culture blooming here ! Maybe next time ?? 😉
Cheers !!
Seriously! Will do!
I love the pic posts! Looks fun – I absolutely love Oregon. Your checkered shirt stood out to me too (in a good way, like I want it) found it funny others mentioned it too! I’m very curious about your photography class. Could anyone attend? I would LOVE to take a food photography class!
Photography class is open to anyone! It’s kind of spendy, though, but we felt like it was definitely a good investment. The classes are hosted through Canelle et Vanille – I think she has a listing of the workshops on her website.
Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing. If you thought that was a lot of pictures, let me tell you, I could have handled double! I am also a creepy stranger-vacation-internet-photo stalker. Made my day! 🙂
I enjoyed all these photos! You guys are seriously cute! You captured the workshop perfectly. I’m thankful because I was too busy thinking about my camera functions to document anything other than my notes:) So glad you made it out to the west coast. I hope you will visit again. You always have a place to stay in wine country. Cheers!
Awesome pics! Where did you take the food photography class. Can I get some info on that?
Thanks
Love vacation pictures! My fiance and I did a 7 week trip up the east coast, thru canada, down the west coast, and thru the southwest – imagine my egg-austion every night!!! It’s not just you… : )
You and B look so happy, carefree, and glowing {maybe is the less sugar these days or the vacation mode}. xo
Oh my word SEVEN WEEKS. you are a champ!
Great photos! Looks like you had a wonderful trip and yummy food. Next time you make it to the West coast try driving the other way 😉 We have great food in San Diego (think Fish tacos and sushi) and lots of beautiful beaches. And you will find a host of MN friends to welcome you here. The best time to visit might be around Jan/Feb – get a break from the crazy snow.
We had actually planned to come south on Wednesday just for a day trip – it is my dream to drive through Big Sur! But alas, we did not make it because we were so tired and we would have only had a few hours before having to head back for a dinner date with friends. Next time!
