And Just Like That, Christmas Be Gone
How did that just happen? I blinked and allthethingshappened and now it’s December 27th and Christmas is nothing more than a crumb left on my sweater.
Although both the crumb and the sweater might be a little generous in terms of describing this Christmas, considering my food intake was Gatorade, ginger ale, and saltines compliments of my special holiday virus, and my new used-to-be-white sweater became a bold denim blue after a careless Emergency Wash to prepare it for Christmas morning.
But who needs white sweaters and delicious food when you have THIS FACE to wake up to on December 25th?
Now might be a good time to tell you that Bjork was unanimously voted Most Likely to Actually Be Santa Claus by my family this year and I’M NOT EVEN JOKING. So there’s that always that.
Regardless of all the imperfections that came along with this year’s Christmas, I tried my best to look generally alive, sip on the bubbly grape juice with everyone, and take a few pictures to remember the most wonderful time of the year.
Between Bjork’s family and mine and all the people in between, we have so many things to be thankful for and UGH I swear wasn’t going to get Christmasy-cliche, but there it is. It’s just sort of overwhelming when you really stop and think about how incredible it is to have all the people you love most in the world gathered together in a room, healthy, smiling, alive, feeding each other good food and feeling all the real life love-peace-and-joy together that represents what we celebrate at this time of year.
So as a way of sharing life, and as a way of letting you know that I am, in fact, STILL ALIVE, this post is a collection of some of my favorite snaps from this year’s celebration featuring no food other than the orange rolls a la Bjork (yahhhmmy), lots of babies and dogs, pajamas, and laughs.
You can just imagine me taking these in the background while munching on saltines in my newly blued sweater. Merry Christmas? Merry Christmas.
Did you make the most yummy things for Christmas this year (like this Christmas tea ring)? Will you please tell me about it? I feel like I’m making up for lost time here.
Wonderful pictures! I must have read too fast because with all the talk of saltines and grape juice I went back to see if I had missed a baby announcement. Darn virus! Hope you’re feeling better now.
Oh my gosh, so funny! No baby announcement, but as you can see from all the pics of my nephew, I have a mild case of baby fever! 🙂
Being sick on Christmas is the worst – no Dutch Baby pancake for you I guess! And no chocolate for breakfast either. Beautiful photo’s of the family and it looks like extended family. Love the cross-country skies, best activity ever (that’s like real exercise). And Santa, I loved Santa this year. I take that back, my kids did but he sure got them picking up toys and listening better!
Glad you are feeling better Lindsay! I was online looking for crock pot mashed potatoe recipes and, low and behold, Pinch of Yum came up and I was delighted to watch your basement video as you made them. Thanks to you, my family in Milbank will enjoy them. Oreo salad is also ready to share tomorrow as we celebrate with Jim’s family! Happy New Year! I suspect I’ll come across a few other goodies from Pinch of Yum as I search for New Year’s food!
So many great memories and many more to come! Happy holidays! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
That little Santa suit! I’m so sorry you weren’t able to enjoy all the delicious things this year. I ate the best brownies, and rolo-stuffed snickerdoodles, and a sweet potato/cashew cream pasta. Here’s to the end of 2014!
WAIT THOUGH. You need to tell me more about that pasta.
Looks like you had a wonderful Christmas! And several Filipino folks present,I see?
And when will you have a baby? The Internet wants to know.
My sibs are Filipino American! And for now, the blog is baby enough. 🙂
I love these family photos you guys! This is such a nice post to see. Did I cook yummy things? Yes of course 🙂 I tried my hand at a Christmas goose for the first time. Have a great New Year!
So sorry you were sick. What a beautiful family! You can see the love through the pictures. Yes, we enjoyed lots of delicious food including my grandmother’s recipe for Christmas Tea Ring (cinnamon rolls baked in the shape of a Christmas wreath). Maybe you could really go all out on New Year’s Day? 🙂
Yes! My MIL makes a tea ring every year – even this year being sick I managed to sneak a few bites of it. 🙂
Lovely photos! I’m sorry you were sick. Hopefully you’re feeling better by now? Since you’re wondering about Christmas foods, my family wins the prize for the most ham this year. Ham on Christmas AND the day after Christmas. A new ham, not leftover ham. Plus classic pumpkin pie as well as summery lemonade pie, by special request. Maybe once you’re feeling better you and Bjork can have a special Christmas-themed dinner to hit all the holiday classics you missed? Merry Christmas!
How sweet is that?! The laughter, the cuddles, the yawns…
What lovely pictures, it looks like you had a wonderful family holiday, and what an adorable baby , is that one of your sister’s? have a Happy , Prosperous and Healthy New Year, I follow your blog very closely, it’s one of my very favorites, looking forward to lots of new goodies from your new kitchen!!!
Yes, that’s my sister’s little guy. 🙂 My nephew Charlie! Thanks for the nice comment Danae!
Merry Christmas and thank you for the sweet pictures that warmed our hearts. Since you asked, this is what we made for Christmas: http://www.dreamyleaf.com/hazelnut-chocolate-pomegranate-cake/
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, Christmas has gone in the blink of any eye but we were back with family in New York this year and everyone brought something homemade straight from their hearts so it was a fine day. I’m sorry you weren’t well; I do hope you’re feeling better by now. If it helps at all one Christmas we were up in NY; at 2am Christmas morning I was struck with a fever of 102 and in the early afternoon just as family was arriving I had the worst case of the flu ever. I put my navy sweat suit on and laid on the sofa while the cousins brought me ginger ale….with extra-extended arms. Your photos were fab. The baby with the Santa belt, the doggies, etc…all beautiful. Here’s to 2015. God bless us all.
Great post — thanks for sharing your Christmas with us! My family is spread all over. One daughter and her brand new hubby came out to Italy to visit us. Younger daughter stayed back in Florida to work. Brothers are all scattered in San Diego and Marinette (Wisconsin). It would be SO nice to have everyone together one of these days. I lived vicariously through you! Feel better soon!
Cross-country skis?!? WHAT?!? Like our favorite winter time activity! If only we had snow….maybe we will have to make a trek up to the cities (assuming you have snow :)) Hope you are feeling better!
I know – it was so weird to gift him the skis with a brown Christmas 🙁 but now we have snow, and it’s plenty cold… we have trails right by our house so you guys should come up for a ski visit!
Hi Lindsay, we went to Matt & Charli’s in WI for Christmas & made Steak au Poivre with Cognac Pan Sauce. In a cast iron pan, of course. Turned out great. I would attach a photo of them but don’t know how! Love your blog. I’m a regular follower.
Gail! That sounds INCREDIBLE. If you are feeling ambitious I’d love to see your recipe! 🙂 email is lindsay at pinchofyum.com. We missed M+C at our Christmas party this year!
Merry Christmas! Hope you’re feeling better! Great pics and post! Can’t believe it’s over either, it always goes so quickly! Wish you could have enjoyed the yummy food more! Every year my kids and I invite some of their friends over to decorate sugar cookies with us and this year we also did peanut blossoms and chocolate chip cookies too! I used your tips from how to make the best chocolate chip cookies ever and oh. my. gosh. They were amazing! You are so right – just a little extra flour goes a long way to make them stay chewy! My kids thought they were the best ever too! I did 350 degrees and with slightly chilled dough by the way! Your post was hilarious and helpful, thanks so much! Happy New Year!
I’m so glad it was helpful! Thanks Lauren!
I made the most delicious gluten free gingerbread. It was a mashup of two other recipes, with a little ingenuity on my part. I have family members that are wheat intolerant, which prompted me to try it out. You can find it here: http://makingitupasisewalong.weebly.com/blog/holiday-cooking-part-ii
Love it! Thanks Carley!
Hi!
Did you make those delicious looking cinnamon buns!? And if so, would you be willing to share the recipe? Thanks!
I did not, but Bjork did! Orange Rolls from a can, to be exact. 😉
Oh yes. We used to make those. I thought that might be what they were. 😉
I hope you are feeling better now. From the looks of these pictures it looks like you had a great time with family on Christmas and I just love the cocker spaniels. I grew up with that breed.
Being sick is no good on a holiday. I hope you are feeling better. e
So many precious pictures! I was unanimously voted the photographer this year too but I don’t mind. I love capturing special moments! Did you have to crank up the ISO? I sure did, lol!
It makes me feel even more connected to you seeing how you have a normal family-style Christmas! We play games too 🙂 this year it was Heads Up, and it was too funny watching Grandma try to use a smartphone!
I didn’t make it for Christmas, but tonight I made spinach and artichoke dip with pull apart bread rolls. <3 Hope you are feeling better soon!!
ah yes! My Grandma got an iPad this year! Whoaaaa. We’ll see how that goes – she is such an inspiration for how much she’s willing to learn and try new things. 🙂
Precious! The memories will be forever.
Oh noes! Being sick during the holidays is the worst! Hope you’re feeling better! I wish I could tell you about all the delicious food we cooked but uhm… Christmas Eve dinner was Kettle chips and microwaved veggies in front of the TV because a teething baby is tiring! And on Christmas Day we let our families do all the cooking 😀
And YAY to Rossignol Bjork, they’re the best 😀
Yay! He’s a new skiier – we’ll see if we have enough snow now for him to actually get to use them.
I created a recipe for a Buche de Noel (Yule Log) a few years ago. This year, I decided to alter it a little and it turned out wonderfully! The recipe is for a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse frosting. I tried adding 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and miniature chocolate chips to the cake batter and it was a huge hit!
My husband made the Golden Crumb Broccoli from my childhood. We’ve had to alter the recipe for many years because we could no longer find the processed Sharp American cheese my mom used to used. This year he finally found Sharp American in the deli section, so we were back in business. It is SO GOOD, but even better as leftovers, so my fantastic husband made a small dish of it just for me. 🙂
Happy Holidays!
That sounds incredible! If you are feeling extra generous I’d love to see that recipe 🙂 you can email using the contact tab!
Had one of those cheesy moments this Christmas, too. I was able to fly home for Xmas for the first time in 6 years and man, it was hard to fly back. Lots to be thankful for xo
So happy for you! Hope you have fun!
