Cooking pancakes with my class? Sounds like so much fun! And what a perfect way to get some fraction practice done!
But before we even started, I realized my mistake, because I already had 3 kids on “take a break”.
Things got worse when I heard this little line: “Mrs. O, last night, I threw up seven times!”
Take your hands off the food, go to the nurse! Are there, by chance, any bleach wipes in my purse?
Re-sanitized tools were finally ready to use. Griddles warmed, batter poured, annnd there goes the fuse.
With no electricity, I tried to contain my 24 friends, but I was going in-sane.
I called the office to get some help with the matter, and when I hung up, dropped the phone in the batter.
The janitor was busy cleaning vomit in the lunchroom. We’d need to wait a while, aka, we were doomed.
After 20 minutes that seemed like a year, we got electricity back and things were in the clear.
But then someone decided to unscrew the syrup lid. And oh, how that syrup flowed! Oh, yes, it really did.
I spent my whole prep time doing the dishes. Serves me right for being so ambitious.
They’re sweet, they’re funny, but they’re only 10, and that is why I will never make fraction pancakes again.
So adorable, I bet the kids had a great time even if it was a whole bunch of hassle for you!
Oh my goodness. Dee-za-stray. I have no other words. . . .
I commend your ambition though!
Ha. Thanks Sara!
These are so pretty! Love this idea!
Hahaha, awwww!
Only you, Lindsay, could turn a frustrating disaster into poetry. 🙂
Well, I don’t know if it really deserves to be called poetry. But thanks. 🙂
I can’t help but laugh at this but I don’t envy you your experience. I’d rather make pancakes with just the 3 dogs at my heels, waiting for me to drop something and my husband in the other room asking me where the remote control is. Wait, that’s no more fun 😉
Aw cute. I could use a few puppies to clean up after me…
But someday when one of those kids is in college, I have a feeling they’ll be remembering that time their awesome teacher let them make pancakes in class to learn about fractions. 🙂
While that sounds like something akin to torture to me, you probably won some serious awesome teacher points with them 🙂
It was a bit torturous… I could feel my internal stress rising and my face getting hot but I tried to keep myself calm. Kinda like every other day. 🙂 I’ll just hope for some of those awesome teacher points.
Oh my gosh I can just picture the mayhem! Hi-Five for even attempting! Xo
lol…
Don’t laugh at me.
Haha, that is hilarious…I’m sure not to you, but for all of us who get to watch from the side!
These look fabulous & fractions never, ever looked so good to me! And when I was growing up, were NOT this fun. Ever. 🙂
Aw, what a cute post. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but at least it was entertaining to read about 😀 And plus, now you’re the awesome teacher they’ll always remember let them make pancakes. I don’t ever remember making pancakes, even in home ec 🙁
Aw, omg that is such a sweet and funny story! I’m sure at the time, though, you wanted to pull your hair out!
Thanks for sharing the funny story! And to think I was going to serve pancakes tonight for supper. I think I’ll pass.
It is funny now, but then????
I guess that’s one ambitious lesson to scratch. I think I’ll stick with fraction sundaes.
It is a GREAT pleasure working with you, Lindsay!
Fraction sundaes definitely went a little better. I did a post on that last year and it was a much happier post. 🙂
Wonderful post! And isn’t it funny to wonder how the kids will remember that some day?
Oh boy. Hopefully the memory will get better with time. 🙂
I can imagine this day was a living nightmare, but reading about it made me smile. Is that strange? I can definitely envision the insanity and see it in my own classroom of teenagers 🙂
I think it would almost be worse with teenager, actually. 🙂
My favorite part was that the kid who had thrown up seven times the night before was mixing away. Of course he/she was. Of course.
Right. Obviously. 🙂 You know how it works.
Sounds like a great adventure…..for the kids that is!
Ha! Exactly!
I wish I had a teacher like you when I was ten. No one let us make pancakes and spill syrup all over the floor!
Adorable!!! Makes me want to do math with my food 🙂
Hahaha I love the pancake face
I wish that I had learnt about fractions by making pancakes 🙂
I’m reminded of an attempt to make pancakes with my kindergarten class many years ago. Then there was the attempt to make cookie ornaments. After that, it was cupcakes… some girls just don’t learn from their mistakes! I’m sure the kids had a blast.
LOL… I hope I can learn from this one, but then again, you never know.
