World’s Best Watermelon Smoothie

8 reviews / 4.6 average

That’s how obsessed I am right now: WORLD’S BEST WATERMELON SMOOTHIE is up in the howwwse, featuring 4 simple ingredients -> watermelon, mint, honey, and water. You’re gonna go nuts.

Maybe it would be best to call it a slushie? I mean, what is the essence of a smoothie? Does it include something creamy? Or is it just any combination of things (well, I mean, fruits probably) that are run through the blender and then sipped up with a straw?

I’m gonna make my own way today, and I am calling this not only a watermelon smoothie, but the world’s best watermelon smoothie because I am that far gone. Beyond just enjoyment, maybe even beyond standard obsession. This watermelon smoothie is otherworldly in its smooth texture, juicy sweetness, refreshing flavor (do you know what I mean? watermelon “flavor” is just SO mind-blowing sometimes, and the mint in there! ♡ ugh you’re gonna die), and utter simplicity. Four ingredients, five minutes to prep, and you’re there.

It is a MUST-DRINK approximately once every day in the summer. With that slushie-like texture and that sweet watermelon-mint taste that will make you feel like you’re a baby unicorn jumping through a crystal clear waterfall, this is a magical potion of summer joy.

How To Make Our Watermelon Smoothie (30 Sec):

Two pink smoothies with a straw.

A few things to know before you get going.

First, just every time you buy a watermelon for this purpose, cut it up in chunks and store the chunks in bags in the freezer. 2 cup portions works nicely – that’s enough for one large smoothie or two small ones. That way you don’t have to go trying to break apart a huge block of frozen watermelon when the watermelon smoothie craving hits.

Second, toss in whatever add-ins feel necessary. If you’ve got basil, throw a few basil leaves in. If a spritzer is more your style, add some La Croix which is more than likely already in your fridge because life loves La Croix, right? If you’re looking for more of a party drink, put your mixology hat on (I’m imagining rum? or maybe tequila in a watermelon margarita sort of capacity?) and GO. Also invite me over please k thanks see you soon.

Thirdly, if you want the slushie-like consistency to stay smooth and uniform, serve it right away. Especially if it the glasses are going outside for any length of time. The longer you wait, the more you will notice the icy slushie parts rising to the top of the glass and the juicy, uhh, juice sinking to the bottom. Which, to be honest, leaves you with a serious juice treat when you stick your straw in and start drinking (pure bliss, really), but maybe you’re looking for more of a non-juicy smoothie experience, in which case serve immediately.

Description

World’s Best Watermelon Smoothie! Featuring 4 simple ingredients -> watermelon, mint, honey, and water. You’re gonna go nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups frozen cubed watermelon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or other sweetener to taste
  • a few mint and/or basil leaves, if you want to take it to the next level

Instructions

  1. Blend the watermelon and the water until smooth. Add the honey and mint and blend another 10-20 seconds until mostly smooth and the consistency of a slushy.
  2. Serve immediately!

Notes

Tips for making this truly THE WORLD’S BEST WATERMELON SMOOTHIE!

Buy a watermelon, cut it up in cubes, and put them in quart sized bags so you have your 2-cup portions already measured out. That way when it’s time to make a watermelon smoothie, you just grab one bag out of the freezer and you’re good.

Thaw the watermelon for 30 seconds or so in the microwave, just enough to break up the chunks and also so that it’s not SO rock hard that it’s going to damage your blender. But not completely thawed, either, because then you’ll lose the slushy texture. You want it in a soft frozen state.

Don’t add TOO many herbs, but… I do love herbs and I highly recommend the addition of both mint and basil. Especially mint.

The smoothie will separate after a few minutes – that’s why you have to serve it right away. This is not a big deal because guess what? The stuff at the bottom (see pictures) is straight up watermelon JUICE and it is amazing.

    Hi Lindsay,

My hubby loves everything that has to do with watermelon, especially watermelon drinks!
If he sees this, he’ll probably make this right away. Haha~
Perhaps I can make this for him today. Thanks for the recipe!

This looks amazing – my hubs is a watermelon juice addict. Be warned, though, that watermelon is high in potassium and when you blend it and thus consume WAY more than you usually would, you can have some very unpleasant digestive side effects. Let’s all pretend I know that from reading the Internets and not by my husband’s own unfortunate experience, mkay? One or two of these smoothies should be fine – he basically consumed an entire watermelon in one day. 🙂

OhhhHHHHhh!!! These are SO good! We’ve been making these for years as summer cool down drinks. We do refrigerated watermelon and ice instead of water, though, with a pinch of salt. Yummy. Goodness, I think I need one now…

Watermelon already in the fridge (into the freezer it goes). Check. Mint overtaking the garden. Check. Crushing on LaCroix sparkling water at the moment. Check. This is the perfect summer recipe for me. Thanks Lindsay!

This is similar to a salad we recently made — watermelon and mint (and feta on the side bc I’m 100% dairy free). Delish.

I see you’re rocking a Vitamix 5200. Nice. Although I’ll tag this one as an “any blender” recipe since you could probably make this smoothie with your bare hands. 🙂

Hey Lenny, I eat my watermelon with feta and love it. I can’t seem to give up cheese. it will come I guess.

  7. Pinch of Yum Logo

    Oh my gosh, yum.
This reminds me of a slushy that we used to make when I worked at a snow cone stand, like 15 years ago…
But seriously this looks absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to make it, especially since it’s getting hotter the further into summer we get!
    Thanks for the recipe!

Be careful if you plant mint in your garden. It attracts bees and is very refreshing but it spreads like crazy.

  9. Pinch of Yum Logo
