Pairings With These Soups
Let’s make it a meal! These are some of my favorite things to pair with a bowl of soup – whether a slice of buttered, crusty bread to swoosh on through, or a salad on the side to bring some crispness to the table. They’re my soup essentials!
Breads and Carbs
- No Knead Bread: If you think you can’t make homemade bread, you absolutely need to try this. It’s no-knead – which means all you need to do is a mix, let it rest, and then bake. This goes with just about everything!
- Garlic Bread: I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy garlic bread from the store again. I’ll often make multiple loaves of these and stick them in the freezer, so I can just grab a loaf of garlic bread to bake all winter long.
- Socca: This one specifically is amazing with that Smoky Red Lentil Soup, but it’s also a great higher-protein, gluten-free alternative to your standard bread. It has a really fun texture, is easy to make, and can be made with just one ingredient at a moment’s notice!
Salads
- Simple Green Salad: I almost always have every ingredient on hand for this – it’s a simple balsamic dressing tossed with greens that can buddy up with any soup on this list.
- Kale Salad: This one is so simple and so good. The breadcrumbs and parmesan really bring an amazing texture and crunch!
- Avocado Caesar Salad: A little more elevated and just so good. My kids especially love the avocado Caesar dressing!
Tips and Tools For Cooking Soup
I love how forgiving soup can be, and how many different ways it can be made! I’ve made almost all of these soups on the stove, in a slow cooker, or in an Instant Pot. Here are my picks! (Links below are affiliate links and I may receive a commission from your purchase!)
- Instant Pot: My favorite thing about making soup in the Instant Pot is SPEED! I can get the recipe started when I get home from the office and have dinner ready to go less than an hour later, with basically zero hands-on time. —> Buy my Instant Pot
- Slow Cooker: I opt for the slow cooker when I need all the good house smells and also don’t want to have to babysit my stove. Always reliable, always so good. —> Buy my Slow Cooker
- Dutch Oven: This is the OG soup vessel, and the only way I make soup on the stove. It gives you a perfect simmer and also just looks and feels so cozy. ❤️ —> Buy my Dutch Oven
