Believe it or not, February has been a pretty low-key month for Sage.
I mean, as you might remember from every picture taken of her ever, low-key is kind of her approach to life.

Snuggly? Gentle? Nap Champion? Check yes, yes, and yes.
Also – Awkward? Nervous? Never quite comfortable with the camera? Yeah, all of that, too.
As much as Sage loves the occasional sprint through the dog park, she really shines in an indoor environment packed with couches, blankets, and treats.
She has always been a back sleeper – like, the kind of back sleeper where her legs stick straight out in every direction – and as Bjork and I did some research, we were not surprised to read that “when a dog is doing the Crazy Legs, they are letting their family know that they feel 100% comfortable and safe in their environment.”
Yeah, that sounds about right, Sageroontoons.

Sage’s big win this month has been playing fetch. She has always been afraid of a) balls, and b) the heating vents in our house, which makes fetch difficult as the balls often roll over the vents and immediately the game is done. But my mom got her a tiny squeaky stuffed animal that is supposedly infused with lavender, “promoting relaxation with each squeak” – lol – and now she wants to play fetch.
Okay, WANTS to play is a stretch. It took some work aka treats to get her to figure out what she was exactly supposed to do, but now I can toss her little stuffie across the room and she knows that she’s supposed to go over and pick it up.
This is her I-don’t-know-why-you-think-this-is-fun-but-I’ll-do-it-for-a-treat face:

Sage’s one big challenge this month has been – and will continue to be – dropping a few of those sweater-bod pounds that she’s accumulated over the last few months. I am not gonna lie – her second, third, and fourth chin rolls are getting pretty extreme. The vet tells us that the rolls are less of a concern, but the overall extra weight (in her case, a solid 3-5 lbs.) should probably be addressed. So Sage’s fitness future is looking like a combination of a little less food and a few more walks around the ‘hood.
Mostly, Sage is a queen and we love her.
Here’s a peek at her February highlights.

WHO IS THIS DOG LOL.

*Photo cred to Bjork for many of these Sagealicious pictures! Team effort on this post.

Sage In June

I just discovered your site while searching for recipes to use in my new Dutch oven which just came today. I am a retired teacher and an animal lover, too! Sage is adorable and reminds me of my rescue dog, Moka. She is a little scared of things and needs confidence. Kind of like me with my cooking. I take the safe route and make the same tried and true recipes. I hope your site will get me cooking some new things. Like the No-Knead Dutch Oven Bread! I have never in my life baked a loaf of bread, and you make it look easy. Thanks!
I just laughed myself sick at your beautiful stories regarding Sage.
Thanks for the joy.
So cute!! I saw in another post you said Sage was getting a DNA test. What kind of beagle mix is she?? We’ve been dying to know ours and she looks similar to Sage! https://www.instagram.com/madeline_thebeagle/
I just stumbled onto your blog for the first time. I love your Sage posts! She reminds me so much in looks and expressions as my beloved Yoyo, who was a shelter dog I adopted many years ago. She passed away a year ago at the age of 14. She was a beagle mix. Enjoy every moment. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss her terribly.
Amazing article.. Dog is so cute
Today I came to your blog specifically looking for a Sage post and lo and behold here it is! I just love her!! And your recipes to Lindsay lol
Why does totally spoilt come to mindWe have a 14 year old retriever who has the same love.
Pictures of Sage are absolutely breathtaking.. Love!
I love dogs, I have a 3yr old lab and he is as fabulous as Sage is..
Oh I just love Sage!! <3 <3
It’s a dogs life! Good to see Sage is enjoying hers and living the good life!
She is just absolutely precious. Don’t pets add so much joy to our lives? 🙂
I’ve missed these posts sooooo much! Sage is all of our spirit animal lol.
Why doesn’t she give sage advice on Instagram any more though? She really helped me through some hard times.
Sage looks like happiness plain and simple❤️
Awwww, Sage is awesome just the way she is! I had an extra high energy Rottweiler named Molly. Her high energy made her a great running partner, but a terrible in the house kind of pet. She literally ran everywhere she went, would lose control and smash into things. Sage looks like a cuddly old soul that I just want to lay on the couch with.
I love that collar! Where is it from??
My vet told me the same about my black Lab dog, I tried giving less food but he followed me around wanting food all the time. I switched his food to good, organic human grade food without all the carbs (read the ingredients list on his food and it was mainly carbs) and he lost the extra weight and was no longer hungry all the time. Try Primal brand Frozen or Honest Kitchen dehydrated brand foods, he liked both. They come in different flavors and are healthy foods. I make dog food for the next day every night, hydrate in containers & refrigerate or put the frozen in baggies in fridge to defrost. Bonus if you use the Honest Kitchen Fish recipe Zeal – they get great fish oil so do not need joint supplements as they age!
Sage is adorable btw! Cute photos!

We trimmed down our 80lb lab but giving him frozen string beans as treats and in part of his food. He liked them and now that he’s older, he needs to stay trim to protect his hips.
Love those dark brown eyes!
I love Sage.
Reminds me of the good days back in Brooklyn when I used to own a German Shepard and a beagle. Loved them so much. 🙂
I love these posts! Such a sweetie.
Love the photos of Sage – keep them coming! Do you happen to know what breed/breeds Sage is? Our dog Clifford looks a lot like her, but we aren’t sure what he is. Our vet isn’t even sure, other than brown dog 🙂
wow i love this dog.
Sage is a total sweetheart! You’re so lucky that you found each other. Now I’m pestering my husband with these gorgeous photos of Sage in hopes he’ll agree to adopt one of her distant relatives
The one in which you’re bending down and Sage is gazing so lovingly and attentively and engagingly into your eyes. Love, love, love!
