Bloggers, Instagrammers, Media-Savvy Food Lovers… consider this your official Save The Date! On Tuesday, June 13th, we’ll be hosting a FREE one-day recipe video bootcamp. For anyone. From anywhere. For free.
Have you ever thought any of the following things?
- Recipe videos get so many views.
- I should make a recipe video for my ____!
- Oh my gosh, it’s way too hard to make videos. Where my snacks at? Byeeee.
I’d like to start by giving you a hearty AMEN. Video production can seem totally scary and overwhelming.
And I don’t want to majorly peer pressure anyone into making a recipe video. If you are happy doing what you do without video, carry on and be awesome. More power to you.
Buuuut I am still going to put a *little* bit of peer pressure on you, because videos – especially food and recipe videos – are SO ENGAGING and so important online right now. Whether it’s social media, YouTube, or blog posts, there are so many places that videos can be used. The demand for videos is high. It is a powerhouse way to reach people with very important messages, like YUM – CHEESE! OOH, WATERMELON! OMG THIS LASAGNA! etc.
I’m being weird about it, but honestly, as a teacher, video makes me so happy. It’s one of our most effective ways of communicating online – in our case, communicating about food and recipes.
So. Today I have good, good, good news:
We’re offering a FREE one-day recipe video bootcamp and we will show you how to do all of this – the iPhone stuff, the DSLR stuff, and the editing stuff. We’re passionate about making things easy to understand.

About Our Free One-Day Bootcamp
First, it’s completely web-based. Attend from anywhere. You can even wear your cat pajamas if you want. If you’d rather wear nice clothes… well, just… why?
We’ll have two main speakers:
Lindsay Ostrom (hi! that’s meee) will be trying to sell you on shooting and editing video entirely on a phone. One of our most popular videos was created entirely on an iPhone, by my unexperienced, untrained, unprofessional self! I think I was literally wearing sweatpants when I made it. I am going to show you step-by-step how to shoot and edit a video using only your phone, because have I mentioned? I LOVE EASY. Big fan over here.
Think of my session as Video 101.
Alana Woolley is the video specialist at Pinch of Yum. She shoots and edits almost all of the videos you see on Pinch of Yum (boss, right?). Alana and Bjork will be walking through a shoot from start to finish and spoiler alert: they’re making migas, which will be cheesy and delicious, so you could also just come for the food-eye-candy. By the end, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to shoot and edit a high quality video with your DSLR camera.
Think of Alana’s session as Video 201.
There will be four different sessions throughout the day. Some sessions are live, some are pre-recorded. Bjork, Alana, and I will all be available on chat to answer questions during the live broadcast. The replays of the sessions will only be available for 24 hours after, so make sure to block out some time during the event or soon after before they become unavailable.

Schedule For Our One-Day Bootcamp
10AM CST:
Session 1 with Yours Truly – Shooting and Editing Recipe Videos on a Phone
I will teach you how to shoot and edit a recipe video on your phone. Some of our early (and most popular) videos were shot and edited by mouah on my phone. You don’t need fancy equipment to get awesome videos!
12PM CST:
Session 2 with Alana – Shooting a Recipe Video with DSLR
Alana Woolley, Pinch of Yum’s video specialist, walks you through the process of shooting a recipe video using your DSLR camera. She’ll explain the gear that you need to use as well as what you should pick for the different camera settings, and you can watch as she records the video footage of the recipe.
2PM CST:
Session 3 with Alana – Editing a Recipe Video with DSLR
Alana returns in Session 3 to walk you through the process of editing the footage that we captured in Session 2. She’ll explain the basic concepts that you need to understand. The editing concepts you’ll learn will work for any editing program!
4PM CST:
Closing Q&A Session with me, Alana, and Bjork – Answering Your Questions About Recipe Videos
The three of us will be hosting a Live Q&A and answering any questions that you have about recipe videos and how we use them on Pinch of Yum.
That’s all, guys! I just wanted to make sure you all knew about this event which is, again, COMPLETELY FREE and (we might be biased) COMPLETELY AWESOME. We’d love to have you there!

Yay, I can’t believe you are doing this, so excited. Will definitely have to check videos later as I have a full schedule and live in Germany, so very different time zone, but heck, you are awesome doing this, thank you!
Sounds good – the videos are available to watch for up to 24 hours after the event goes live. Hope you can catch some of it Jenny!
What an awesome idea! Video is so overwhelming to me so I just avoid it. I can’t wait to tune in!
Thanks Aimee! Excited to see you there!
I am so excited for this workshop! I’m not ready for video JUST just yet (still getting my feet wet with photography) but it is definitely next on the list and watching Lindsay work in the FBP videos was so inspiring.
I shot my first picture after watching only a few of the videos and the photo was accepted to Food Gawker on the first try! I can’t wait to see where her video tips will take me 🙂
I might be a bit of a masochist for attending a day long event about FOOD during Ramadan, but for you guys, it’s totally worth it!
Hahaha – it will be great to have you Rebecca!
Yes. This is awesome. Thank you i will sign up.
Kind Regards from the Netherlands
That’s great – looking forward to seeing you there Emine!
You guys are so generous with your time and talents and it so greatly appreciated! Can you tell us how long each session is and do we need to watch the videos in order? I have a conference on Tues, but will be home mid afternoon…so wondering if I jump in the mid day or wait for videos and watch in order. Thanks!
Good question – each session is somewhere between and hour and 90 minutes. And you don’t have to watch them in order but they probably make most sense that way. 🙂
All signed up and cannot wait!
Awesome! See you there Jennifer!
I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it to the live videos yesterday, but I was able to catch the replays today and they were so helpful. Thanks so much for doing this, guys!
I missed it! 🙁 Will you have a replay?
Hi Carole! We streamed a replay on June 14, but the courses are now only available for Food Blogger Pro members. We’ll be opening up enrollment next week, so be sure to sign up for the waiting list if you’re interested in becoming a member! https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/
Just wanted to stop by and thank you all for such a great video workshop! As a Adobe Premiere newbie I learned so much. The video replay has been a lifesaver as I have referred back to it a number of times as I am editing my videos! Thanks!
We’re so glad to hear that, Arlene! Thanks for the comment!
