HI! I’ve made these twice now and they are just soooo good(: My batch makes roughly 40…but they’re so yummy!
Thanks for the recipe.
Summer’s almost here (9 days, to be exact – but not like teachers are counting or anything).
Summer’s arrival reminds me that the State Fair is almost here.
And that means that my extreme culinary adventure of deep fried candy bars, pronto pups, fresh juicy peaches (to offset all the fried food), Sweet Martha’s cookies, corn on the cob, and deep fried mini donuts is close at hand.
In an attempt to hold myself over for those freshly fried and dipped cinnamon sugar mini donuts (sigh), I thought I would make some of my own.
Besides my craving for mini donuts, it’s been a while since I put my mini donut pan to use.
Yes, I have a mini donut pan.
What, you don’t?
Let me tell you something. You need one. Seriously. If you like donuts (duh) and you want to be able to make donuts in 15 minutes flat (no joke), you need to get a mini donut pan.

- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 36 mini donuts 1x
Description
These cinnamon sugar mini donuts are baked, not fried, and rolled in cinnamon sugar. Tastes like the state fair at home! SO yummy.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups cake flour, sifted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 1/2 tbsp. butter, melted
- 6 tbsp. butter, melted (for dipping)
- 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar (for dipping)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, egg and butter and stir until just combined. Spray the pan with nonstick cooking spray, and fill each donut cup approximately one-half full.
- Bake 4–6 minutes at 350 degrees or until the top of the donuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan for 4–5 minutes before removing. Finish the donuts by giving them a quick dip in the melted butter, then cinnamon sugar. Let cool/firm up for about 15-30 minutes, if you can wait that long.
Notes
The most important thing to know is NOT to overfill the mini donut tins! Each little circle should be halfway filled or less. I do this by putting all my batter in a plastic bag and the cutting the tip off so I can neatly squeeze just the amount that I want into each mini donut spot.
Also, compared to other recipes I’ve tried, these mini donuts are very cakey (hence the cake flour). I was a little worried that they were too light for me. But they bulk up a bit when you add the butter and sugar to the outside, obvs. Overall, very tasty!

Not bad for a mini donut that’s half the calories!
But I guess that was before the butter and sugar part.
My goddaughter wants me to make these. Might I be able to borrow your donut pan this week? 🙂
Yes! I will bring them to you today!
What temperature do these bake at?
350! Sorry bout that.
can you fry these donuts
I don’t think so, I think the batter is too runny to be formed into donut shapes and fried. But I just posted another fried donut recipe: https://pinchofyum.com/cinnamon-sugar-donut-balls
I’ve tried this recipe twice and both times the recipe is very thick, almost has a cookie dough consistency
My daughter loves these type of donuts ! We go to the fair about every 2 years, and when we do, she goes straight to the donut truck. She just reminded me of this, and she is craving for one, so I looked it up.
Thanks for the recipe ! I can’t wait to surprise her ! 🙂

Thanks for the recipe.
Is it necessary to use cake flour?
It could work with regular flour, but won’t be quite the same texture!
Can you use silicone bakeware? My husband loves these donuts!
What about if I have 2 regular sized donut pans with 6 donuts each? Any tips would be helpful!! Thanks
I saw another comment with the same question. Good news she said you can : )
Dear Lindsay,
Please, could you give me the right weights and measurements in grams and ml?
Thanks!
Sílvia.
Ewe….I followed recipe to a T and these are so awful my 7 year old even turned up her nose…they taste like butter but very sour not sure why but these are so gross
I just made these today and they are wonderful!
I like this kind of candy.
Do you have a gluten-free version by chance? Love this recipe
Mine didn’t turn out well
Can I do the recipe with regular milk or do I have to use buttermilk
We’d really recommend buttermilk here. If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, here’s how you can make your own!
Hello! I hope someone answers my question because I ordered a mini donut pan just to make these, but alas, I accidentally ordered a regular sized donut pan! Can I still make these?
Sure can!
Tastes AMAZING! Some of the best donuts ive had. The texture is great because its bounces and is soft when you bite it. They look gorgeous and taste awesome! Im bringing some to a class party and i just know its gonna be a hit! Five stars. ❤️
I made these in my little mymini donut maker. They turned out great. They are sweet but not super sweet. I made a glaze of powdered sugar, milk and butter instead and they are a perfect little snack
i tried your recipe vs mini donuts deep fried hands down deep fried wins
The first time I made these they turned out great. Today I made two different batches of the batter and it turned out a very different consistency – so dry that I couldn’t even get it in the pan. What am I doing wrong?
