Slow Cooker Pear and Sausage Stuffing

Slow cooker filled with pear and sausage stuffing.

This delicious post is all about the STUFFING STUFFING STUFFING and it’s sponsored by Jones Dairy Farm!

I really mean business with this Thanksgiving stuff now.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt, stuffing is my absolute all time favorite of the Thanksgiving foods.

Turkey and mashed potatoes are good, but it’s not really Thanksgiving to me without the cozy herbed bread cubes baked into that crispy, dense texture that only stuffing can have.

And even though stuffing works any time of year and it’s one of my favorite foods evvv-errr, somehow Thanksgiving is really the only time of year that feels appropriate to eat this carby goodness. Fellow stuffingers, the time is now. Please don’t waste one more second of this precious stuffing season eating anything other than stuffing. Agreed?

This particular stuffing is made with pears and dried cranberries for two reasons: a pop of gorgeous color (wheeee!) and a zing of sweetness (whoaaa!). The savory herbs with the bread and the sausage make a perfect comfy bed for those pears and cranberries to hibernate in all through the day of Thanksgiving prep.

And by the time everyone is ready to eat, the pear and cranberry sweetness has seeped right on into the savory, making that salty-sweet stuffing combo that’s all like MORE MORE MORE.

So, I thought I already had a favorite stuffing…now this recipe? Love sausage in it, love sweet and savory…and love pears….which I never thought to put in stuffing and now I need to try this too…and in a crock pot? Geez…with this and the mashed potatoes that can also cook in the crock pot…I’m thinking I need more crock pots!

Slow cooker stuffing is completely brilliant! I always feel overwhelmed when preparing big dinners like this, and not to mention my oven is usually totally occupied because I INSIST that my rolls be straight-from-the-oven fresh for dinner. Love that my slow cooker can pull its weight for Thanksgiving!

You are too cute! I wish I had rolls straight from the oven fresh for dinner. But I wish someone else was making them for me. 🙂

Well…as my full extended family is here for Thanksgiving this year, and I am assigned the stuffing job, I was just pondering what to make. Thank you for simplifying–this looks perfect, esp. w/ our home-grown pears! 😉

Stuffing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving too. It has to have sausage, apples, and raisins or cranberries in it. Yumm.

Do you know if there is a problem on the Jones site, I click on the recipe and the screen just goes dark…..I can’t get to it. This recipe looks amazing by the way…Is it printed any where else?

    thanks

    Lindsay,
I don’t like this whole “click on this, then click on that, then click on the next thing” approach even one little bit. I like your recipes on YOUR site and that’s it. There’s my two cents.
Forgive me for my candor, as I get awfully emotional about stuffing. It is absolutely one of my top-ten favorite foods and I take it very seriously.

I think slow cooker dressing is sooooo much moister than bake in the oven. Gosh all the
those dressing recipes in one spot—-awesome. I think it’s an underused side dish. Sausage dressings are my all time favorite type. This is an excellent version.

Wow, I like it! And, I’m with you on stuffing being the best of the Thanksgiving Day feast. It is not Thanksgiving without the stuffing! My kids would hate me forever if I left out the stuffing. 🙂

My slow cooker is usually reserved for the mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving, but it just might have to switch jobs this year…never thought of it for stuffing! Which definitely IS the best part of the meal. Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

This looks amazing and I plan to make for our Thanksgiving this year. What size crock pot did you use?

Our family recipe for stuffing has sausage in it and I’m not a huge fan of it. My sister is a vegetarian so I was looking for something she’d like too. I just made this without the sausage. We LOVED it!!! So very moist and flavorful. She said she’s never had vegetarian stuffing that was moist. Thanks for another great recipe!

The recipe wouldn’t open on the other website . . . any way to post the recipe here? Thanks!
