Edamame Hummus Wrap

It’s the day after Thanksgiving. I woke up hungry (somehow that doesn’t seem right, considering all that I ate yesterday) and after exhausting all my energy trying to snag some doorbusters….

I was more than ready for something to eat. Preferably something healthy and filling.

Let’s briefly talk about edamame. In case you’re not familiar… edamame is a soybean. I don’t think I used edamame, technically. My Archer Farms steam-in-the-bag variety says mukimame. The only difference is that mukimame are shelled, so unlike edamame, the beans don’t come in pods.

Long story short, it’s easy to find and easy to cook to make this edamame hummus. Look in the frozen foods section.

Description

This whole wheat vegetarian wrap is made with edamame hummus – a delicious puree of edamame, olive oil, garlic, and salt. Green and delicious!


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1.5 cups cooked edamame (or mukimame … just no pods please)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • 1.5 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • salt
  • water

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, blend all ingredients. If it gets too thick, continuously add water by the spoonful until you reach the desired consistency.
  2. Now, for the wrap. Plop some hummus down, top with spinach, and sprinkle with crumbled blue cheese. For an extra bonus, drizzle 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil over the top. For an extreme bonus, add crumbled bacon. I would have done this in an instant if I hadn’t already used up all my bacon. Dang.

Notes

You could omit the tahini, or add lemon, or anything else that sounds appealing. I just used what I had on hand.

    Two things. 1. Why did you say the wrap had blue cheese and why did you mention bacon? 2. Why did you not talk about the spinach tortilla and the red bell pepper sauce, or the delicious flax seed crackers? I thought this was a review and an un unveiling of the recipe. This (idk) was unsatisfying.

      Good pointers, Autumn. The omission of blue cheese in the ingredient list was an error, and we will work on fixing it. The bacon mentioned was just an extra (totally optional) item. This post was from several years ago, so the recipes for red pepper sauce and flaxseed crackers were not on the site yet.

    Plop some spinach down on what? The list of ingredients appears to be incomplete. Is there anything else I need to know?

      Delilah, not sure if you are being intentionally rude with how you are writing or not. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt. But if you are making a hummus wrap, what do you think you’d plop the hummus down on? Some common sense, even when reading a recipe and cooking it is required. Ok, I’ve been cooking for many years, so I’ll pass on a tip. People make mistakes, forget things, and often the computer likes to play games and can wipe out part of what you typed without you realising. Also when blogging, often the author cuts and pastes things to try and make the words flow and things get missed. So with that explained, I have found, even in printed books that have gone through loads of proof reading before going to print, that it is best to read the recipe all the way through before you begin, simply to ensure nothing was accidentally left off the ingredients by mistake. It saves a lot of frustration.

    Made this for lunch today as I had a bag of edamame in the freezer. It was delicious and I think it’s my new favourite. I made exactly as you wrote it, but I think it would also be great with a little more water, a bit of hot sauce and then drizzled over some fried chicken. Can’t wait to try.     This was super good and easy! It was almost refreshing. I used shredded mozzarella cheese and turkey bacon!
